
Buffett announced that he planned to donate more than 80 percent of his fortune to charitable causes. He increased that amount to 99.9 percent by 2020. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was founded by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the primary recipient. The foundation focused on global health and education. Bill and Buffett had been friends since the 90s. The other organizations that received contributions included those that Buffett's 3 children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named in honor of his wife who passed away, which was focused on women's reproductive rights and supported college scholarships. The Giving Pledge was an invitation for other wealthy people to give a large portion of their money to charitable causes which was founded by Buffett and Gates back in 2010.
